"Wild Hearts"
Scenes from the Pilot Show
A
billow of steam rises from where a Blacksmith works. CORD, 50’s,
an American Indian with a leathery face and long hair emerges from the
steam. He wears a long leather apron. He looks out from the barn where
MICHAELA, (MICKEY) 12, sits reading a book against a stall fence. She
is sweet, down to earth, and a shy girl. She wears jeans and a sweat
shirt, MICKEY looks down at the book entitled "Mustang, Wild Spirit
of the West." A pony is behind her.
MICKEY
(voice over)
Wild horse Annie wanted to save the wild horses of Nevada. The mustangs.
I’d give anything to see real wild horses. I dream about them.
She turns
to her pony.
MICKEY
Don’t worry, I love you best.
She looks
at Cord who subtly waves hello. She waves back.
DISSOLVE
TO:
We see
a herd of mustangs racing through the hills. The herd moves gloriously
through the magnificent landscape. Their long manes blowing in the wind,
their tails flowing, their thunderous hooves beating the earth. The
wonderful sound of the free horses is now marred by the sound of a propeller
plane and the rev of truck engines. Men with Lassos swing their ropes
as the approaching trucks close in on the herd.
MICKEY
(voice over)
She saw the mustangs being hunted by men in planes and taken away
in trucks. She saw them dying. She wanted to save them.
A young
American Indian boy runs alongside the herd. He has long hair, little
clothes and runs like the wind as he tries to outrun the trucks. He
moves like a horse, and seems to be one with the herd.
MICKEY
(voice over)
When I dream about wild horses, I feel their freedom and power and
I feel the same - just wild inside waiting to breakout.
