The No More Night Mares Legend - The Sky
Stallions
The spirit of Flying Wind, the great chestnut
stallion looked down from the misty black sky and
spoke softly to his son Eclipse. "First you need
courage, for without it you have lost the battle
before it begins. Strength is not enough. If your
battle overpowers your body and your will, call to
the spirits of your ancestors. If you are pure in
heart, we will answer."
Eclipse, the powerful, glistening, black stallion
reared on his hind legs and whinnied to the mist in
the sky. He was covered in sweat and his lean
muscles ached from exhaustion. He had run to near
death to save his herd from man’s capture. He had
made a pledge in his youth with Flying Wind, his
father, to fight for freedom. It was a promise that
great stallions lived and died by.
Eclipse’s mares, Lucky Stars, Comet and Moonbeam,
pursued by hunters, were approaching the edge of a
cliff. The spirits in the sky heard Eclipse’s cry
for freedom and unraveled the mist to the earth
below, blazing a path to the stars. The three mares
galloped to safety in a glowing blanket in the sky.
Their destiny was to become the Night Mares,
lighting a path for all the horses on the land
below.
"Your fate was determined many moons ago, my son"
spoke the majestic Flying Wind. "You are part of a
line of great stallions, the Sky Stallions, fighting
for freedom and for family."
It is a legacy larger than life, never ending, like
the universe.
Look up into the sky and open your heart and the
spirits will slowly rise out of the night mist. A
legend will come to life about a brave wild heart
with a spirit too strong to die.
